An arrival alert for tuition is a notification that tells you when your teen’s phone reaches the class, and another when it leaves. You save the centre as a place once, and after that nobody has to text. It takes about five minutes to set up, and it works best when your teenager has helped you choose what to switch on.

Why tuition is different from school

School has a bell, a register and a bus. Tuition has none of that. The batch starts at 6pm, the class is on the second floor of a building you have never seen, and the ride home depends on whether the auto is available or a friend’s brother has a bike. Your teenager is out in the evening, often when it is already dark, and you are in the kitchen checking the clock.

That’s why the “left” alert matters here as much as the “arrived” one. Hearing that class has ended and they are on their way home tells you roughly when to expect them, which is often the only thing you really wanted to know.

Setting it up step by step

  1. Open your Circle and save the tuition centre as a place on the map.
  2. Turn on arrive and leave alerts for it.
  3. Switch on quiet hours, so a late finish or a phone left near the centre doesn’t wake you.
  4. Ask your teenager to check the alert once with you, standing at the centre’s gate or on a weekend visit.

The “check it once” step sounds fussy, but it settles a lot. You’ll see how close to the door the alert really fires, and your teen will see exactly what lands on your phone.

How many places can you save?

A free Circle can save three places, which usually means home, school and one tuition or coaching centre. That is fine for a single class. If your teen goes to two or three batches a week at different places, you’ll run out. Traxl Plus raises the limit to 15 places per Circle, and it costs ₹100 a month or ₹999 a year. Before paying, think about what you will really use. Some families swap a place in and out when the timetable changes, and that is perfectly workable on the free plan.

You can compare the plans on the pricing page.

Tip: Phones in bags and basements

Plenty of coaching centres are in basements or on upper floors, and many ask students to keep phones switched off or in a bag. An alert can arrive a few minutes late, or fire when your teen is at the gate instead of at the desk. Treat the timing as approximate and agree a back-up, such as a quick “reached” message when the phone comes out.

What if the alert never comes?

Don’t jump to the worst. Open the map and look next to your teen’s name: if their location has stopped updating, Traxl shows a likely reason, such as battery saver, permission off, or a phone that has probably died. You can also ask them to check in, and they’ll get a notification with an “I’m safe” button. Only if none of that gets an answer does it make sense to phone the centre.

This only works if the phone is allowed to share in the background. Android’s battery settings are the usual culprit when sharing stops, so run through the setup checklist in the app once, not just once a year.

A few evening-batch habits that help

Charge the phone before class, not after. A phone at ten per cent at 5pm is the most common reason an alert goes missing, and the Circle is told when a battery drops to about 15%, so you will at least know why. If the batch ends after dark, agree where your teen waits for the ride home, and whether a friend walks with them. The alert tells you they have left; the plan for the last stretch is still a human one.

Keeping it fair for your teenager

An alert at tuition is a small ask, and most teenagers accept it if it stays small. Don’t add more places than you need. Don’t use the “left” alert to demand why they took ten minutes longer; a friend, a chai stop and a slow signal at the crossing are all normal. Teenagers join a Circle only through an invite that a parent or guardian confirms, and they can see who else is in it, because Traxl has no hidden mode.

If you’re working out the right level of sharing for everything else in your teen’s week, our post on knowing your child reached school covers the morning side, and a written agreement helps keep both sides honest; there is a family agreement you can copy.

Traxl is a free Android app, with the iPhone version coming soon. The alert tells your Circle where a phone is; it doesn’t see inside the classroom and it doesn’t call anyone for you.
