Location sharing stops at night because the phone’s battery manager suspends the app once the screen has been off for a while. Android itself does this gently (Doze), but the manufacturer layers on top, on Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and Samsung phones in particular, do it hard. The fix is the same everywhere: mark the app as one the phone must not restrict. The menus differ by brand, so here they are one by one.

First, the setting that applies to every Android phone

Settings → Apps → your tracker (Traxl) → Battery → choose Unrestricted (on some phones: “Don’t optimise”). Traxl asks for this itself when you turn on background sharing; if you tappedNot now, the Finish setting up card on Home asks again.

Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco (MIUI / HyperOS)

  1. Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Traxl → Battery saver → No restrictions.
  2. Same screen → Autostart → on.
  3. Open the recent-apps view, long-press Traxl, and tap the lock icon so “clear all” doesn’t kill it.
  4. Settings → Battery → (three dots) → turn off Battery saver scheduling if it’s on at night.

Vivo, iQOO (Funtouch OS / OriginOS)

  1. Settings → Battery → Background power consumption management → Traxl → allow high background power.
  2. Settings → Apps → Traxl → Autostart → on.
  3. In the recent-apps view, pull Traxl down to lock it.

Oppo, OnePlus (ColorOS / OxygenOS 13+)

  1. Settings → Apps → Traxl → Battery usage → Allow background activity and Allow auto-launch.
  2. Settings → Battery → App battery management → Traxl → Don’t optimise.
  3. Recent apps → long-press Traxl → Lock.

Realme (Realme UI)

Same as Oppo: Settings → Apps → Traxl → Battery usage → allow background activity and auto-launch, then App battery management → Don’t optimise. Realme also has Settings → Battery → More settings → Sleep standby optimisation; turn it off if your phone sits idle overnight and shows nothing.

Samsung (One UI)

  1. Settings → Apps → Traxl → Battery → Unrestricted.
  2. Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → make sure Traxl is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps; add it to Never sleeping apps.
  3. Turn off Put unused apps to sleep on that same screen, or Samsung will re-add it after a few days.

Motorola, Nokia, Pixel (near-stock Android)

Only the universal setting is needed: Apps → Traxl → Battery → Unrestricted. These phones rarely kill a properly written foreground service.

How to tell it worked

The next morning, open a family member’s phone and look at your card: “updated 2m ago” means it ran all night. “Updated 7h ago” means the phone killed the app at bedtime, and the brand section above still has a step you missed.

Why apps can’t just fix this themselves

Android only lets an app ask for the battery exemption; the user has to grant it, and the manufacturer layers can’t be changed by an app at all. Traxl does what an app can: it runs as a foreground service with a visible notification, restarts itself with a watchdog if killed, records your route while offline and uploads it later. The one thing it can’t do is stop the phone from suspending it. That part is the settings above.
