Most tracking apps look the same in the store. These 25 checks are where they actually differ. Use them on any app, including ours; the top 10 comparison applies them to ten apps.

  1. Live location on one map. The basic promise. Check how often it updates and whether it survives the phone being locked.
  2. Works in the background. Android kills background apps; a good app asks you to exempt it from battery optimisation.
  3. Offline recording. Does the route still get recorded with mobile data off, and uploaded later?
  4. Place alerts (geofences). Arrive and leave alerts for home, school, work. Check how many places are free.
  5. SOS. One tap, and shake or a quick-settings tile for when you cannot unlock the phone.
  6. Crash detection. Does it alert your family only, or call emergency services? They are different things.
  7. Flight detection. Lets the family know you are in the air rather than missing.
  8. Check-ins. A way to say 'I'm safe' without typing.
  9. Battery and device status. See low battery, no network, or location off before worrying.
  10. Ring my phone. Rings even on silent. Check whether Do Not Disturb silences it.
  11. Driving events. Speeding, hard braking. Ask whether they are measured or estimated.
  12. History. How many days are free, and how many on the paid plan.
  13. Live link for non-users. Share with someone who has no app.
  14. Group trips. One QR, verify riders, arrival at each stop, report.
  15. Teen-safe invites. Guardian confirmation for people under 18, and proof it is stored.
  16. Map styles. Satellite, terrain, and labels.
  17. Circle limits. How many people per Circle, how many Circles.
  18. Ads. Are there ads, and are they near the SOS button?
  19. Price in rupees. Check the real price in your store, not a dollar conversion.
  20. Privacy controls. Pause sharing, leave a Circle, delete your account in-app.
  21. Data deletion. Is there a web page to delete your account without the app?
